Basic wireless Internet access is provided to campus visitors via two methods:
- utguest: is an open Wi-Fi network, simply select utguest to connect (no account or coupon required)
- eduroam: is a global roaming network of educational institutions (requires account, see your home institution for details)
Your use of these services indicates that you have read and accepted the Acceptable Use Policy. For more information and restrictions see KB0011686
UT Austin students, faculty, and staff should use the utexas or utexas-iot Wi-Fi networks which are twenty times faster, more secure, and lack the restrictions of these visitor options. In accordance with state law and UT System rules, UT Austin students, faculty, and staff may not use utguest. Many services have been limited and are monitored to ensure compliance on these networks, and devices may be quarantined for continued use. To remove utguest from your device see these articles:
- utguest

- See https://utguest.org
- For help and restrictions see KB0011686
- eduroam

Departments can sponsor network access for visitors using the following mechanism. Most visitors will not require sponsorship given the university's complimentary wireless offerings (utguest and eduroam).
Sponsoring Affiliated Workers
Longer term visitors who require regular access to the network (e.g., visiting researchers on campus for a semester, or long term contractors) will need an Affiliated Worker EID to access the utexas Wi-Fi network. Note that many visitors from other educational institutions will likely use eduroam.
Visitors in this role will need to create a UT EID if they do not already have one. Once the EID has been created, administrative staff from the sponsoring department will need to create a University Affiliate position and assign the Network Access privilege.
