All navigation takes place on the left-hand side of screen.  Chevrons pointing to the right (ex. "Alerts    >", indicate that this menu item will expand with additional options.  A chevron pointing down (ex. "Cloud & Enterprise Agents  ∨") indicate that options are being show below, indented under the parent.

Cloud & Enterprise Agents

  • Views — View different observed data from the tests (availability over time, status by phase and much more).
  • Test Settings — Review test settings after a test has been created by Web Application Monitoring team.  No changes can be made, but all settings can be reviewed.
  • Agent Settings — Review the settings of the various "Enterprise Agents" and "Cloud Agents", their configuration, location, and other relevant information.  Note: "Proxy Settings" is not used.
  • BGP Monitors — Review configured Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) monitors. BGP is a standardized exterior gateway protocol designed to exchange routing and reachability information among autonomous systems on the Internet.

Tests make up the data gathering part of ThousandEyes.  A test is performed on a URL, IP address, or network infrastructure. The web application monitoring team will consult with you on what tests you need and will create them for you.

  • HTTP Server — tests if a URL is responding or producing an error.
  • Page Load — tests how long it takes to load server pages, any dependencies (images, other servers, database connections) that might be slowing a site down.  It will give you the ability to view a "waterfall" graph of each element as it loads and the time it took to load.
  • Transaction Test — enables you to test the interaction with a website to ensure it is working as your customers would expect.
  • FTP Server — allows testing the availability of an FTP server, and if specific files can be accessed.
  • DNS Server — providing a domain name, record type, and nameserver(s) allows you to query for a target record; testing will provide metrics such as Availability, Resolution Time, timelines and more to help you track the health of your DNS Servers.
  • DNS Trace — measures the following metrics: percentage availability for the requested DNS record; the average number of queries sent to produce each trace; and the average response time from the final (authoritative) DNS server.
  • DNSSEC — measures worldwide validity by validating the keychain for the target DNS record from the bottom up.
  • Network — allows for you to test the network connection between the server and a target IP.  Metric data is gathered such as BGP routes, timing, and more.

Additional tests and information can be found on the ThousandEyes Customer Success Center.

Alerts allow you to specify thresholds and conditions based on the data collected by the tests.

  • Know if a specific response code or error is returned.
  • Trigger on thresholds set for a specific range of response, connect, wait, and receive times.
  • Conditionally alert if a result has happened x out of y times.
  • Analyze specific header information returned from HTTP tests.

Alert List is where notifications regarding problems with specific configuration issues, alerts that have fired, or problems with the services will appear.

Alert Suppression allows you to suspend alerts during known maintenance windows or periods of time where a service is known to be down or might generate false positives.

Additional alerts and information can be found on the ThousandEyes Customer Success Center.

This option allows a various methods to collect and share the results of tests and the collected data.

Snapshots are the archival feature of ThousandEyes, allowing you to keep "snapshots" of history to review it again in the future.  This is also the location to setup how much data will be grouped together and sent as a static PDF report.

Shared by ThousandEyes are a assortment of tests that are provided free of charge by ThousandEyes to use in comparison with your existing tests.  All collected test data is viewable and can be used custom dashboards, widgets, etc.

Embedded Widgets are the ability to generate versions of Dashboard widgets that can be displayed outside of ThousandEyes, such as WIKIs, other websites, etc.

Used primarily by the service administrators, but is viewable in a limited fashion by end-users.

The "Activity Log" is the most useful feature here to allow you to review the audit log of activity within the Web Application for our account.
