ITS offers several storage solutions that can fulfill a variety of use cases. This article identifies the high-level features of each to help determine which solution could best meet your needs.
Microsoft OneDrive
Comprehensive personal, team and departmental disk service. OneDrive is a secure, highly available enterprise-scale data "storage" solution available to departments and individual faculty, students, and staff.
Individuals
- All Outlook email users are provisioned with 2 TB storage capacity. This is known as your OneDrive. Documents are Private unless designated to be shared.
Teams and departments
- SharePoint and Teams site folders support up to 25 TB. Your OneDrive client is able to connect to these drives as well, with permission based availability.

UTBox
UTBox is a campus-wide cloud content platform. Service allows UT Austin faculty, staff, and students to use Box' secure, cloud-based file sharing and collaboration features for business and academic purposes.

- Accessible via Box Drive (Windows/Mac OS X) or web browser (all operating systems)
- Approved for storage of Confidential data (Cat1, HIPAA, FERPA, etc.)

- Authentication via Campus Single Sign On (SSO)
- Collaboration options available for University and non-University individuals
- Individual storage: Unlimited for faculty, staff and students
- Departmental storage: Unlimited

- Upload files via a web browser and quickly collaborate with users across campus or outside the University

Virtual Servers (UT-VMG)
UT Virtual Machine Gateway (UT-VMG) provides cost-effective, reliable, self-provisioned Virtual Machines (VM) based on the VMware vSphere Virtual Infrastructure suite and vRealize Automation product. UT-VMG is intended to serve departments, colleges, and research units at The University of Texas at Austin.
Features
- Virtual server based on the VMware vSphere infrastructure
- Infrastructure housed in the University Data Center (UDC)
- Customers retain responsibility for system administration of UT-V VMs
- Storage: Tier 1 and Tier 2 storage available in 1 GB increments
