The VoIP Project replaced the university’s existing telephone system with a Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP)-based system, replacing or disconnecting over 23,000 phones. The new system was purchased, and installation of the core was completed in Fall 2012. In Spring 2013, deployments began in buildings across campus. The deployment  for the majority of the in-building work was completed by an outside vendor in order to complete the deployment in approximately two years, thereby accelerating features and cost savings for units.

There are 3 types of service available when requesting new service:

Business: Supported by ITS and your departments TSC, more features and options

Basic: Supported by your departments TSC only, limited features and options

Analog: Limited availability on UT Austin campuses, must meet analog criteria
