Upgrading a UT EID
In response to the ongoing concerns regarding COVID-19, ID Center staff are performing all UT EID upgrades using remote processes to limit face-to-face interactions and protect the health and safety of all members of the UT community. ID Center Staff will process remote video chat EID upgrades Monday through Friday between 9 am and 4 pm.

EIDs for new freshman, transfer, international, and graduate students admitted by June 2, have been automatically upgraded. All automatic upgrades will be valid through Saturday, September 26th, 2020.
All other students may request an EID upgrade by completing the Remote EID Upgrade Request form. An ID Center employee will process your request and then contact you to confirm a date and time to conduct a video chat to verify your identity and obtain your signature electronically on the EID Agreement using DocuSign.

For large groups of 20 or more (e.g., NEWO session), HR Personnel should complete the Group EID Upgrade Request form and submit it to ID_Center@utlists.utexas.edu. ID Center Staff requires the following information for the requester and each employee.
- Last Name
- First Name
- Middle Initial
- Email Address
- Phone #
To ensure that ID Center staff can process requests without unnecessary delay, HR personnel should verify that the Names and EIDs provided are accurate and the EID has an active affiliation before submitting to ID_Center@utlists.utexas.edu.
ID Center staff will validate the information provided in the request and facilitate a temporary upgrade for each employee to allow the employee time to complete the requirements for a non-expiring (permanent) upgrade and obtain their ID Card once campus resumes normal operations.
To be eligible to upgrade your EID, ID Center staff must be able to verify your identity and you must have a clear relationship with the university. Only students, faculty, staff, retirees, and university affiliates are eligible to receive an EID upgrade.
Note: Most UT Austin students, faculty, and staff EID upgrades are processed as part of orientation.
You WILL NEED an upgraded UT EID to:
- Register online for credit-by-exam tests.
- View your grades online.
- Access your W-2 online.
- Conduct other university business online.
You WILL NOT need an upgraded UT EID to:
- Register for classes
- Access Financial Aid Notification (FAN) to accept or decline an award
