IP Address Management
ITS provides DNS (Domain Name System) hosting services for colleges and departments at the university, as well as qualifying related organizations. ITS hosts all hostnames, subdomains, and delegations for "utexas.edu" and certain related domains, as well as providing hosting for authorized vanity domains that may have been registered with external registrars.
ITS operates a DNS self service system which provides a web-based graphical user interface to the campus DNS (Domain Name System) services. This interface system allows users to manage DNS entries within their respective sub-domains under "utexas.edu" and other hosted domains.
Authorized TSCs (Technical Support Coordinators) for units on campus will be granted access to this system to manage the DNS entries for their respective subdomains and hostnames. Top-level entries within "utexas.edu" will continue to be managed by UTNIC.
The DNS Self Service interface system is deemed non-critical to operations, has no defined uptime warranty, and receives best-effort support during business hours only.
- Manage forward DNS records (mapping a host name to an IP address)
- Manage reverse DNS records (mapping an IP address to a host name)
- Manage other DNS related fields (e.g. MX records, TXT records, etc.)
This service is funded by ITS Common Good services and is available at no additional cost.

Routine requests to the ITS Service Desk receive a response within 4 hours, and are typically resolved within 1-2 business days. Service Desk staff may escalate requests as needed.

Service Availability
The DNS self service system has has no established SLA and is operated on a best-effort basis.
Maintenance and Incident Communications
ITS will follow established maintenance and change management processes for this service.
ITS will follow established incident communications processes for unplanned outages for this service.
ITS provides DNS hosting for hostnames and sub-domains in "utexas.edu" (e.g. "lib.utexas.edu" and "facultyjobs.utexas.edu") to qualifying departments, research units, or certain approved services. Once the hostname or sub-domain has been created, the authorized TSCs can manage those records using the DNS Self Service interface.
For certain ITS-managed domains, requests must be submitted to ITS Campus Solutions using this form. This is applicable only for DNS requests in "austin.utexas.edu", "its.utexas.edu", and "cc.utexas.edu".
Restrictions: This service is only available to official Organized Research Units, colleges/departments, and University-wide services as approved by the University Communications Standards Committee.

ITS provides DNS hosting for hostnames and domains outside of "utexas.edu" to qualifying departments, research units, and certain approved services. Departments that have registered a domain with an external registrar will be responsible for delegating that domain to UT's nameservers. Once the domain has been created, the authorized TSCs can manage those records using the DNS Self Service interface.
ITS maintains three (3) authoritative DNS servers for the domains hosted by the university. If you are utilizing an external registrar service, please be sure to specify each of the authoritative nameservers listed below:
- marianas.its.utexas.edu
- glass.its.utexas.edu
- chisos.ots.utexas.edu
If you are a unit TSC and need access to the Infoblox system for DNS self-service, please contact the ITS Service Desk.
Restrictions: Domains registered outside of "utexas.edu" are still subject to approval by the University Communications Standards Committee.

There is no cost for DNS hosting from ITS. External costs for registering the domain may apply (to be paid directly to the applicable registrar).
