How Do Departments Obtain an Electronic ID for a Device?

A digital signage device is the ideal use case for utexas-iot Wi-Fi/wired network. Personal EIDs are not appropriate for department devices, so we recommend departments get a device Electronic Identification (EID) to register these MAC addresses for WPA2 keys.  The procedure to obtain a device EID is included below.

The benefit of having a device EID is that you can share the EID password with other support staff to co-manage these WPA2 keys via the network portal (procedure to register WPA2 key is included below as well).

If you have more than 10 devices, the login limit may be increased for the device EID.

Procedure to Obtain a Device EID (departments only):

1. Generate a guest EID (https://idmanager.its.utexas.edu/eid_self_help/

2. Open a ServiceNow ticket with IAM (Identity & Access Management) team (assignment group "ITS-Apps-ID Management") to request for "NWA entitlement". With that they must include:

a. Two technical contacts (Name, EID, email, phone) and Department contact (Name, EID, email, phone)

b. The purpose of the use case and how the device is managed/secured

3. Once IAM enables the NWA entitlement, it will have wireless access. IAM will typically request approval from the director of N&T (importance of use case and security) NOTE: be sure to use this EID to login to either the mainframe, AD, Shibboleth, or UTlogin at least once every 18 months in order for the EID to remain active, otherwise you will not be able to log into the network portal.

2. Log in with the device EID

3. Click the "Register Wireless Device" button
