If a set of moderators has not been specified for a list, then the list owners inherit the privileges and responsibilities of list moderation. Once a list moderator is specified, the owners no longer have that role.

Owners and moderators do not receive posts to lists; they must be added as subscribers in order to receive list messages.

Sympa has many settings to fine tune who may send messages to a list. Below are some of the more useful send types that can be configured in Sympa. For each list admin role, their ability to send to the list has been specified.

To navigate to these options: first log in, select the "My lists" icon to see your lists, then visit the list in question. Select Admin from the left menu, select Edit List Config -> Sending/receiving setup from the Edit List Config menu.

The first option, Who can send messages, has a pull-down menu with the send types.

• Closed (closed) This send type essentially suspends the list and allows no posts.
