Background

A UEDIT library is a kind of library on the mainframe.  UEDIT libraries have 2-character names, which are the same as "department prefixes".  To create a UEDIT library, email the middleware team at workloadautomation-requests@utlists.utexas.edu and ask them to create a UEDIT library for your department. The library will have the same name as your department prefix.  After it is created, you access your UEDIT library by entering 'UEDIT' on the 3270 command line.

How can I tell if my UEDIT library has been created?

  • Start up a 3270 window,
  • Enter UEDIT on the command line. (And hit Enter)

RESULT: You will see this page:

  • For 'Library:', enter the 2-character name of your library (where you see the 'CE' in the picture above). (And hit Enter)  If this library does not exist, you will get an error saying  "Library not found". (Or, if you typed in two random characters instead of a real department abbreviation "Library not defined".)  If this library exists (and you have left the "Member:" field blank) you will get an error saying "No member specified.
