Enterprise Orchestration Services provide a Workload Automation solution that delivers business originated job scheduling capabilities. Workload Automation provides the ability to automate, coordinate, and manage complex computer systems, middleware, and services. Workload automation helps contain or reduce costs, increase productivity, automate time-consuming tasks, reduce errors, ensure compliance, and increase IT agility to respond to business needs. 

Philosophy of this Documentation

This documentation is designed to help you know what is special and different about the UT Stonebranch instance and how to integrate with UT specific services. It is not meant to be a replacement for the stonebranch manual. Stonebranch is not necessarily intuitive and the stewards are available to come do training and help you learn the product. What I need

What do I need to have before Stonebranch can help me automate my work?

  • A Central Service such as PyPE or Transfer or at least one host to install the Stonebranch Agent on for the Universal Controller to run tasks on. (The Universal Controller is the term for the job scheduler and workload automation broker that allows you to manage the jobs and workloads). 

     

Once I have what I need, what's next?

Now that I have a host to run tasks on and a defined business process, where do I go from here?

  • Use Stonebranch's Video Classroom to get started with the basics. Links to the Video Classroom and Stonebranch documentation can be found in the (Stonebranch) Training and Stonebranch Resource wiki space.
  • Stonebranch has three environments available to develop, test for quality, and finally to run in production the tasks required to automate your process.  All consumers will get access to all three environments.  Read more about them here: (Stonebranch) Available Environments.
  • Once you've reviewed that you can submit a request for access to the service here (Stonebranch) Getting Started: Request Access to Service and the Service Provider Team will work with you to get you access.
  • Once you have access, you are responsible for installing the agent on all appropriate endpoints where job scheduling will occur. Instructions will vary based on OS and can be found in this "Getting Started" section. Common Good offerings with agents already installed include PyPE and the File Transfer Server.
  • If your business process requires use of Central Services only (such as PyPE or Transfer) and you do not need to orchestrate jobs on a non-Central Service you do not need a host to on-board to the Stonebranch Service.
