The following instructions will allow you to securely connect your device on the general networks.

  1. Disable Wi-Fi temporarily on your device to ensure you are configuring the wired connection.
  2. Plug your device into an Ethernet port using an Ethernet cable. Note: depending on your computer model, an Ethernet adapter (Thunderbolt or USB) may be required.
  3. Wait approximately 5 seconds for 802.1X network prompt (shown below). Enter your EID for account name, and your EID password for password, check "Remember this information", click "OK".
    1. If no prompt appears, you may try unplugging and plugging in the Ethernet cable.
    2. If no prompt appears and you do not wish to use 802.1X, you may also try opening a web browser to "abc.com".  The page will be redirected and ask you to login before landing on network.utexas.edu after a minute or so.
      1. If the web page will not redirect, you may also attempt to register the MAC address of your device manually from another one with network access (such as your smartphone).  On the other device go to https://network.utexas.edu and follow the directions.
  4. You may need to re-enable Wi-Fi on your device if you plan to disconnect from wired.
