Editing Items from List View

***As of the Helsinki upgrade (May 2017) this functionality only works with some reports displayed as homepage gauges. You can no longer make list view edits outside of homepage gauges, and some homepage gauges will not allow list view edits depending on security and workflow constraints.***

Many fields can be updated from list view without opening the form (i.e. incident, request item, knowledge article). 

To edit a field from list view, double click on the field you would like to edit. Depending on the type of field, you can enter new information or select a different option from a dropdown list of available options for that field.

This functionality will not allow users to bypass required workflows. For example, you cannot use list view edit to move a knowledge article that requires approval from Review to Published to skip the approval.

 

Examples of list view editing:

Update Short Description

Double click on the field. Manually enter a new short description and click the green checkmark to save your changes.

 

Update Requested By/For, Opened By, or Assignee

Double click on the field. Begin typing a user's name or use the magnifying glass to search for a name or EID. Click the green checkmark to save your changes.

 

Update State

Double click on the field. A dropdown list of available options will appear. Select the desired state and click the green checkmark to save your changes.

 

Please Note: Do not attempt to change an Incident to a Request (or vice versa) from list view. This is not a direct functionality of this version of ServiceNow - attempting to do this can and will break the original Incident/Request.
