If you experience issues with slowness, invalid operation messages when sending or replying to email, or other issues not addressed in the Office 365 ITS help pages, then the next thing to try is recreating your Outlook Profile:

  1. Go the File tab in Outlook, and then click on Account Settings.

  2. Click on the Data Files tab, and take note of the Name and location of any data files that end in .PST. You will need to know this in order to add these files back to your new profile later on.

  3. Close Outlook completely.

  4. Go to the Start menu, and select Control Panel:

  5. From the** Control Panel**, Click in the Search box in the top right corner, and type “mail”. You should see the Mail (32-bit) icon appear in the results window:

  6. Open the Mail icon, and press the Show Profiles button. You will see the following screen. You may have more than one profile, or your profile might have a different name than what is shown below.

  7. Select the profile that contains your AEMS mail account. If you have multiple profiles and are not sure which one to select, you can select each profile and then click Propertiesand Account Settings until you find the one that hosts your AEMS email. Once you have found the correct profile, highlight it and select Remove.

  8. Next, select the Add button.
  9. Type a name for your new profile and click Ok.

  10. A wizard will pop up on the screen. Type your name, full email address, and password as shown below, and then click Next:

  11. Outlook will search for your server settings. When it is complete, you will see three green check marks:

  12. Click Finish.

  13. Back on the Mail Profiles screen, make sure that your new profile is selected underAlways Use this Profile.

  14. Now re-open Outlook and wait for it to load.

  15. Go the File Menu, and then click on Account Settings.

  16. Click on the Data Files tab, and this time select Open File Location and then navigate to the files you wrote down in step two and add them back to your account.

  17. Outlook will now re-index your email messages, which may take some time. Ability to search will be impacted while this process is taking place. You can check the indexing status by placing your cursor in the search field, and then clicking on Search Tools, then Indexing Status on the search ribbon. When the popup notification says there are zero items remaining, then the re-indexing process is complete.
