Provisioning a VM - Initial Login Password
Initial Password for Newly Provisioned VMs
After you fill out the Request Machine form (see Provisioning VMs), the service will immediately begin provisioning the VM, unless the deployment requires approval.
Once the VM is provisioned successfully, an email will be sent to the email address specified in the Your Email field of the New Request form.
From: its-vserver @austin .utexas.edu To: testuser @test .utexas.edu Subject: VM Creation Request for xxxx.yyy.utexas.edu UTVMG automated VM notification VM Created |
Once you receive the email message, you can SSH/RDP (depending on VM OS type) to the IP address given in the email with the username/password provided in the Stache link.
You can also search in Stache for the newly added password entry bearing the name of the new deployment.
Once you have logged into your VM, you may proceed with any other initialization that is required for your environment. This may include the following (as well as other other options).
- For a RHEL VM, register VM with UT Campus Satellite server.
- For a Windows VM, join to an appropriate Active Directory Domain.
Common Issues with Passwords
If you mistakenly entered an EID in the provisioning form that does not have Stache access, contact the UT-VMG team to help recover the password. Otherwise you can simply delete the deployment and try again.
RHEL VM Notes
For RHEL VMs provisioned from our template, you will be forced to change the root password on first login with those credentials. It is highly recommended that you perform this action over SSH, as the console has a timeout.
Windows VM Notes
For Windows VMs you should change the administrator password during the initial login session.
