All connections to disk storage on Austin Disk Storage are required to use a secure connection method such as WebDAV over SSL, secure file transfer protocol (SFTP), SMB with encryption or UT VPN, so that Austin Disk Storage meets the minimum requirements for Confidential data. This allows ITS to provide the campus community with an enterprise-level storage solution for Confidential data. However, Austin Disk is not appropriate for data covered under International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).

SMB with encryption is the recommended secure connection for Mac and Windows computers. Connection procedures are available at Connecting to Austin Disk File Shares Through SMB on the Mac. and Connecting to Austin Disk File Shares Through SMB in Windows.

Off-campus users must have UT VPN running when they connect to Austin Disk using either SFTP or SMB.
