Qualtrics and Web Accessibility
The Qualtrics survey tool is configured to ensure surveys comply with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 AA standards. Non-compliant, or inaccessible, survey questions are disabled by default and cannot be selected for use. Qualtrics automatically reviews surveys at the completion of their workflow and summarizes any scanned web accessibility issues. End users must correct design issues in order to release their survey.
To avoid delays in distributing surveys, users can take the following steps to become familiar with accessibility standards and manually check the accessibility of their surveys:
- Use the New Survey Taking Experience (previously Simple Layout) when constructing your survey
- Review the Qualtrics vendor documentation on how to configure surveys for accessibility
- Select survey question types from the Qualtrics list of accessible survey questions. It is important to note that some question types have accessible and inaccessible versions.
- Manually check for survey accessibility and follow any resulting accessibility tips
Enable the New Survey Taking Experience (previously Simple Layout)
Some question types are noncompliant with Web Accessibility standards that the UT Brand must adhere to. This can be usually be fixed by turning on the new survey taking experience for your survey.
Activating the new survey taking experience for a survey is quick and easy. Please note this must be done individually for each survey, and you can only do this for 1 survey at a time.
Open the survey where you want to enable this experience.
Go to Look and feel.
A pop-up will appear asking if you want to activate the new survey taking experience. Click Confirm to activate it for this survey.
Attention: If you click Don’t show again, the pop-up won’t appear for you in any survey when using your current browser. If you access Qualtrics in a different browser, you will see the pop-up
NOTE: There are features that are not yet compatible with the the New Survey Experience.
The vendor is continually redesigning the application so that more features are compatible with the New Survey Experience.
