Current students, faculty, staff, and official visitors have access to the utexas-iot (Internet of things) wireless network on campus.
To connect to utexas-iot, your device must support WPA2-PSK (aka. "WPA2 Personal"), and you must register your device with your UT EID.
From a network-connected device:
- Go to https://network.utexas.edu
- Log in with your UT EID (via UTLogin)
- Click the "Register Wireless Device" button
- Enter your device's MAC address and a description, and click the "Register" button
- Make note of the WPA2 key generated (will be unique for each device you register)
On your IoT device:
- Select utexas-iot from the available wireless networks
- Enter the WPA2 key provided to you in step 5 above
Troubleshooting:
- WPA2 keys are unique for each device you register. To look up the WPA2 key for a given device, you can go to https://network.utexas.edu, select "Wireless Devices", and click under the "Wi-Fi Password" column to unmask your device's unique key
- To un-register a device, go to https://network.utexas.edu, select "Wireless Devices", and click the "X" for the row corresponding to the device you wish to un-register
- For assistance locating your device's MAC address, please consult the product documentation for your device
Applications that require publicly accessible IP addresses:
Due to the large number of devices on the wireless network, connected devices are not assigned publicly accessible IP addresses.
