Overview

Current students, faculty, staff, and official visitors have access to the wireless network on campus (SSID: utexas).

This Wi-Fi network is recommended for most UT Austin users. For additional information about other Wi-Fi networks offered by UT, please see KB0020135.

Requirements

To connect to utexas, your device must support WPA2 or WPA3 and 802.1x authentication (aka. "WPA2/WPA3 Enterprise") and be capable of operating at the 5GHz or 6GHz spectrums (2.4GHz not supported on utexas SSID - see KB0020135 for options if your device requires 2.4GHz).

Note: As of May 2025, devices will also need to support WPA3 Transition Mode, even if connecting using WPA2. Some Wi-Fi drives may not support this (notably several models of Intel 802.11ac cards - see KB0020115). If your device does not support WPA3 Transition mode, you will not be able to connect to utexas. Please refer to KB0020135 for alternatives.

How to Connect (Automatic Method)

Most modern operating systems (Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS) are able to automatically detect the settings to connect to the network.

Bring up the list of Wi-Fi networks on your device, select utexas, and log in using your UT EID when prompted.

How to Connect (Manual Method)

If your device is unable to detect the settings, you may need to manually add the network. The configuration parameters are (note: depending on your device, not all parameters may be shown):

If your device requires manual import of the server certificate, it can be downloaded here (PEM format).

Troubleshooting

If your device had previously connected to and saved the utexas Wi-Fi profile prior to May 2025, you may need to delete or "forget" the network and re-connect. This is due to a certificate change for that network, which some devices (notably Android, but may affect others) are unable to update without removal of the previous saved profile.

For Android devices, the certificate validation options may vary in their default options or alternative options. Some devices may have a "Trust on first use" option, and others may have a "Do not validate" option, which should work. These options (or the entire certificate validation option) may vary depending on make, model, and software version of Android device.

Questions?

If you experience trouble connecting to utexas wireless or if a configuration is not available for your device, contact the UT Service Desk.

Other Notes

Due to the large number of devices on the wireless network, connected devices are not assigned publicly accessible IP addresses.
