Fringe Benefits

What are fringe benefits?

Fringe benefits refer to non-wage expenses paid by The University of Texas at Austin on behalf of their employees. It includes insurance premium sharing, employer matching Old Age, Survivor's, and Disability Insurance (OASDI), Unemployment Compensation Insurance (UCI), Workers' Compensation Insurance (WCI), Teacher Retirement System (TRS), Optional Retirement Program (ORP) matching, and Vacation/Sick leave assessment.

Fringe benefits are not charged directly to departmental accounts. Instead, a pooled fringe rate is assessed on all earnings paid through payroll, and is posted after each payroll run. This assessment will be charged to the same account as the associated earning, except in situations where a fringe redirect to a different account has been established.

More information about pooled fringe, including the current pooled fringe rates, can be found on Payroll's Fringe Benefits website.
