I have questions about information requested in the UBIT (Unrelated Business Income Tax) questionnaire.
Whenever a CSU engages in an "activity" that generates income or avoids costs, it may generate a federal tax liability under the Unrelated Business Income Tax (UBIT) regime. The Non-Financial Questionnaire (NFQ) is a tool used to collect information to determine whether the "activity" must be reported on UT’s federal tax return filed with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). An NFQ should be completed by a CSU representative with knowledge of both the activity and accounting/business procedures.
Further information can be found on Tax Services UBIT webpage, in the Handbook of Business Procedures Part 5.4, and in UT System Policy UTS 103. Email tax.ubit@austin.utexas.edu for additional questions about UBIT or the NFQ.
