Faculty and Graduate Student Worker Appointment Date Changes

What’s the Faculty and Graduate Student Appointment Date Change Project?

To improve the faculty and graduate student employee experience, University leadership approved a new set of academic appointment dates to align academic appointments with the academic calendar. Starting in Fall 2024, faculty and graduate student employee appointments will begin August 16.

How will this change benefit Faculty and Graduate Students?

Aligning to the academic calendar will have a number of positive impacts for faculty and graduate student employees, including:

Resources for Colleges, Schools, Units (CSUs) and Faculty.

Because this change will impact current workflows, a cross-functional team comprised of representatives from colleges, schools and central business units is working together to develop new workflows and guidance materials.

NOTICE: Prior Approval Request (PAR) Update

Prior Approval Request (PAR) technical updates are complete. CSUs may submit PARs for summer and fall 2024 faculty new hires.

A Note on UT Terminology: Appointments vs. Jobs

At UT, the terms Appointment, Academic Appointment, and Job have distinct meanings, but due to a long history of use are often used interchangeably, especially when discussing academic employment.
